Sow and Grow!

Growing your own food is a great way to bring the family together – and help persuade the youngest members to eat their five a day. It’s amazing how kids will try new flavours when they are home grown and studies have shown that children who are involved with gardening will develop a greater interest in healthy eating.

With the mower stored away for a few months it is time to pack your veg beds with fresh fodder to see you through the chilliest time of year.

We have everything you need in our award-winning ‘Grow Your Own’ department and lots of in-store inspiration showing what you can achieve in your outside space – whatever its size.

Vegetables can be grown in flower borders, hanging baskets and window boxes. But if you want to provide for the family for most of the year then a dedicated vegetable garden is the way to go.The easiest vegetables to grow are courgettes, lettuce, runner beans, tomatoes and potatoes. You can even grow your spuds in patio pots.

Growing your own will save you money, and will taste so much better than supermarket veg. There are no food miles and your veg and fruit can be cooked within minutes of harvesting them.
